St Matthew’s Pre-School in Kimberley, South Africa is in the grounds of our twinned church, St Matthew’s, and is for children aged 4 to 6. All parents have to pay to send their children to pre-school in South Africa, therefore poor families cannot afford to provide this crucial start for their children. This means that by the time they start statutory state school aged 7, they are significantly behind in their education, and unless they’re very bright will struggle to ever catch up with their wealthier peers. St Matthew’s vision is to enable some of the poorest children from the township to receive a Saturday morning education at a cost of 350 Rand per month (about £24). Working with St James’, our profit helps to provide many children with the chance to attend the pre-school.
